A new year brings new resolutions! One of the most common resolutions is to live a healthier life. Many of us have decided to jumpstart that resolution by doing a cleanse/detoxification of the body. Detoxing - when done the right way - has many health benefits: it can enhance your energy levels, aid weight loss, clear up your skin and improve digestion.
There are many questions and suggestions while doing a detoxification of your body. One of the most common questions is, “should I exercise, since my energy level is low”. The answer is YES, but exercise gently, don’t go overboard. We’re talking gentle yoga or Pilates, or taking an afternoon walk in the park. Just because you’re resting doesn’t mean you should be lazy, your body should still be moving and stretching while you’re on a cleanse to keep things functioning properly. Also, sweating enhances the detoxification process. Using saunas at your gym or trying out an Infrared Heat Body Wrap at iSWEAT LODGE just might be the thing for you. Whether you opt to cleanse with a professional or detox on your own, incorporating the ability to sweat during the process will enhance your results.
The infrared heat complements the detoxification process by increasing blood flow, promoting better circulation to pump white blood cells through the body and help organs cleanse themselves effectively. Infrared heat also increases our heart rate, lowering our blood pressure, and giving the body a cardiovascular workout in-turn generating sweat without joint or muscle stress on the body. The main job of sweat is to regulate the body’s temperature, but it’s a multifunctional system. When sweat passes through your sweat glands, it takes toxins with it and cleanses your skin, which is the goal of doing a detoxification.
For those interested in a supervised detoxification, KOI Wellbeing is offering a 21-day Paleo MediCleanse, that begins this January 10, 2017. iSWEAT LODGE is collaborating with KOI and offering all participants of the cleanse additional discounts on Infrared heat wraps to enhance their detoxification experience. Conveniently, KOI and iSWEAT LODGE are located within one block of one another in Bird Rock, the quaint neighborhood, of La Jolla.
iSWEAT LODGE has also created Resolution Packages for those looking to detox on their own or to just incorporate infrared heat therapy and whole body vibration into their regimen. The sale is good until January 7, 2017 and includes wraps as low as $30 per session or a monthly membership where sessions are as low as $13 per session.
Here are a few other helpful suggestions to adhere to during your detoxification:
Eating and Drinking: Avoid black tea, coffee, and alcohol. Drink herbal tea instead, which supports the kidneys. Drink fresh juices like carrot, beetroot, apple, and cucumber juice, which are all both nourishing and cleansing. Avoid processed foods especially the “ready meals” and savory snacks. Aim to eat only food in its natural state. Cook it by steaming, lightly boiling or poaching, to retain as many nutrients as possible and full flavor.
Brace yourself for side effects: Depending on your regular diet, a cleanse may be a complete shock to your system. Eliminating coffee and sugar from your daily diet could cause headaches, nausea and more, but if you stick with the cleanse past the first few days, you’ll absolutely begin to feel better. Your body needs to detox from caffeine and sugars, but once it learns how to create energy on its own again, you’ll be able to sustain on your own.
Reduce your stress while you’re on a cleanse: The best suggestion is to start a cleanse on a weekend when you know you can relax without work stress. After the first couple of days you’ll be able to handle stress again, but a high anxiety level while you’re not able to emotionally eat and you’re experiencing a headache is just setting you up for failure.
Keep hydrated:. You should be drinking at least eight glasses of water a day on a regular basis, but up your water intake while you’re on a cleanse to about two liters per day. Not only will your body function better, but you’ll also be clearing out any toxins you have in your body.
Choose organic food: This will minimize your intake of toxic pesticides. Even if you can't make every item organic, do the best you can - it will make a difference.
Look after yourself: Support the detox process by getting a good night's sleep, trying yoga or Pilates, treating yourself to a massage or infrared session (to sweat out the toxins) and exercising regularly.
