Kat’s Keto Journey


As a health and wellness advocate who is always talking about the benefits of infrared heat therapy, Kat was curious to learn more about the Keto diet. She was nearing a mile-stone birthday, with a trip to Las Vegas around the corner, and she wanted to look and feel her best.


Keto – or the ketogenic diet – is a low carb, high fat meal plan that enables the body to produce ketones in the liver to be used as energy. The idea is that you can lose weight by replacing the body’s typical go-to energy source "carbs" with fats. A long-term ketogenic diet can significantly reduce body weight and keep it off. Almost without exception, low-carb diets lead to more weight loss than the diets they are compared to, especially in the first 6 months. A large percentage of the fat lost on low-carb/Keto diets tends to come from the harmful fat in the abdominal cavity, where most people want to reshape and lose weight from. This abdominal fat is also known to cause serious metabolic problems.

Weight loss is only one benefit from this meal plan. There are studies that show you can improve your general nutrition, physical performance and increase endurance by “going keto”. Others report that ketosis leads to cognitive improvements and helps with insulin and glucose tolerance. Very low-carb/ketogenic diets are constantly being studied for other brain disorders as well, including Epilepsy, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease

By sticking to keto, Kat has lost 27 pounds in 7 weeks and has seen a significant change in her body proportions.

“It’s not always about the number (on the scale), it’s about turning fat into lean muscle and losing inches,” said Kat Pytka, Owner & Founder of iSWEAT LODGE. Eating keto for Kat means a diet high in fat with good fats (avocados), proteins (more beef than chicken or fish) and green veggies. She stays away from starch, sugars and carbs. In the morning, Kat will eat eggs, bacon, avocado and cheese. In the afternoon, she eats a salad with protein and for dinner she’ll eat another protein with steamed veggies. Below are some examples of her daily meals. First mini bacon, egg and cheese quiche, meal prep for lunch salads that include hard boiled eggs, bacon and avocado for dressing avocado oil with some vinegar and cayenne pepper. For dinner, substitute pasta for spiraled zucchini and sausage with pesto and goat cheese and for desert Fat Bombs! Made from 96% dark chocolate, coconut oil, cream cheese and peanut butter!- Sugar Free and Low Carb but HIGH fat!


You’ll likely experience a rocky start as the liver begins to turn fat into ketones to be used as energy. This is why it can be very uncomfortable, since your body is not used to this form of fuel. So people tend to experience brain fog, headaches, nausea, and fatigue, known as the Keto Flu.
